A boat with migrants sank in the sea due to an accident in Italy. 59 people died, including 28 Pakistanis.

According to the international news agency, this ship left Turkey a few days ago with immigrants from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and many other countries. The Italian city of Crotonia sank into the sea twenty-five kilometers from Calabria.

There were about 150 to 200 people on board. With timely action, 81 people were saved alive, of which 20 people were transferred to the hospital.

According to the authorities, the bodies of 59 people, including 28 Pakistanis, have been recovered.

The Pakistani embassy in Italy and Italian authorities said there were 40 Pakistanis on board the sinking ship. It is feared that all Pakistanis will die in the accident. The bodies of 28 have been found while searching for the rest.

The Pakistani embassy in Rome is in direct contact with Italian authorities, including maritime agencies, as well as with volunteers from the Pakistani community in the region and with Pakistanis in Calabria.

Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said that we are closely monitoring reports of the possible presence of Pakistanis in the ship that sank off the coast of Italy.

He said in a message on Twitter that the Pakistani embassy in Rome is in the process of finding out the facts from the Italian authorities.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif termed the drowning of more than two dozen Pakistanis in a boat accident in Italy as alarming and directed the Foreign Office to inform the nation about the facts soon.

The Prime Minister said in a tweet that the news of more than two dozen Pakistanis drowning in a boat accident in Italy is very disturbing and alarming.
