At 1,009 Delhi saw 60% jump in daily Covid count; Positive rate rise to 5.70% MIGMG News


New Delhi: Delhi on Wednesday recorded a 60 per cent jump in Covid-19 cases with 1,009 new infections, while the positivity rate rose to 5.70 per cent. The national capital also recorded a death and 314 cases of recovery during the past 24 hours. The number of active cases reached 2,641.

This was the maximum number of cases recorded in Delhi since February 10 when 1,104 infections were reported. A total of 17,701 tests were performed one day before.

On Tuesday, Delhi saw a jump of nearly 26 per cent in Covid-19 cases as it reported 632 new infections, while the positivity rate fell to 4.42 per cent.

Earlier, on Monday, Delhi’s Covid-19 positivity rate jumped to 7.72 per cent even as the city recorded 501 new cases, 16 fewer than the day before.

On Sunday, the national capital recorded a positivity rate of 4.21 percent and 517 cases of COVID-19, with no deaths. On Saturday, 461 COVID cases and two deaths were reported in Delhi while the positivity rate was 5.33 per cent.

As cases continue to rise in Delhi, the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMD) on Wednesday issued new guidelines. Reauthorizing mask while in public, DDMA has imposed a fine of Rs 500 on offenders.

However, the DDMA decided not to close the schools, but chose to develop a separate SOP in consultation with experts. Masks have been made mandatory for students and all school staff.
