Kolkata: The Calcutta High Court on Friday ordered an investigation by the CBI into the murder of Trinamool Congress leader Bhadu Sheikh, in what appeared to be retaliation for the killing of nine people in Birbhum district of West Bengal.
The Supreme Court had earlier ordered the opening of an investigation by the CBI into the killing of nine people in the village of Bujtowi.

Prayers were held in front of a seat in the oath chaired by Chief Justice Prakash Shrivastava to order an investigation by the CBI into the killing of Bahadu Sheikh as well, alleging that the two incidents are linked.

The court, which also includes Judge R Bharadwaj, has ordered that the Sheikh’s murder case be transferred from the state police to the CBI for the purpose of a full investigation.

The court on March 25 ordered to hand over the investigation into the March 21 violence in Bujtowi to the CBI of the Special Investigation Team appointed by the West Bengal government.

The state’s general directorate said on March 22 that the violence in Bujtowi occurred within an hour of the killing of Sheikh, the deputy head of the local panchayats. The location of the Sheikh’s killing is about a kilometer from Baktawi.
