New Delhi: Birthday Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia celebrates his 29th birthday today. He brought laurels to the country by winning many medals for India. Born in Haryana, Bajrang has spoiled good players many times with his wrestling.

Bajrang Punia was born on 26 February 1994 in Haryana. He was brought up in Kudan village in Jhajjar district.
Bajrang defeated Japan’s Takatani Daichi 11-8 in a one-sided encounter in the men’s 65kg final at the 2018 Asian Games. Not only this, he is the ninth wrestler from India to win a gold medal at the Asian Games.
Bajrang Punia dedicated his gold medal to former Prime Minister Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee. Currently, he is working on the post of OSD Sports Officer in Indian Railways.
Please say that Bajrang inherited wrestling. His father Balwan Punia was also a wrestler. His brother Harendra Punia is also a wrestler. However, due to financial constraints and poor conditions, he never got a chance to prove himself. His father faced many hardships to make Bajrang a wrestler.
Bajrang Punia started wrestling at the age of 7. When Bajrang was learning wrestling, the financial condition of his house was not good. But his father did not allow his son’s dream to be broken. Bajrang’s father traveled long distances by bicycle. So that he can save money and give his son good nutrition. For many years, the family compromised their circumstances so that Bajrang could get goiter and milk in time.
Bajrang Punia came into the limelight in 2013. He did wonders in 2013 by winning the bronze medal at the 2013 World Championships in the 60kg category. Olympian Yogeshwar Dutt was very impressed by this feat done at just 19 years of age. After which he started training Bajrang under his supervision.
Bajrang Punia continued his impressive performance at the 2014 Commonwealth Games held in Glasgow. He won the silver medal in the men’s 61 kg category. However, the year 2015-16 was not particularly good for him. During this period he could not win a single medal. But at the 2017 Asian Wrestling Championships, he made a spectacular comeback by winning the gold medal.
Wrestler Bajrang Punia won the gold medal in the men’s 65kg freestyle category at the Commonwealth Games as well as the 2018 Asian Games. After this Bajrang Punia won silver medal in World Wrestling Championship in 2018 and 2019. Bajrang is the only Indian wrestler to have won three medals in prestigious tournaments such as the World Wrestling Championships.
Bajrang Punia has been honored with Arjuna Award, Padma Shri Award, Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, Major Dhyanchand Khel Ratna. Bajrang Punia has so far won a total of 3 bronze medals, 4 silver medals and 5 gold medals in various games. He married Sangeeta Phogat on 25 November 2020 with full rituals during the lockdown. Only 21 suitors attended his wedding.
