Mumbai: The Bombay High Court observed that the city of Mumbai is not for the developer and the Slum Rehabilitation Act (SRA) is meant to serve the purpose of public welfare and not for the developer. Simultaneously, the court ordered two developers to pay Rs 11 crore “transit debts” for a suburban SRA project.
A bench of Justices Gautam Patel and Neela Gokhale made the observation on Monday while hearing a petition filed by Shri Sai Pawan SRA CHS Ltd. The petition alleges that the two developers appointed to redevelop his company have not paid him “transit rent” since 2019.

Afcons Developers Ltd and Ameya Housing Pvt Ltd have been appointed as co-developers of the Jogeshwari slum rehabilitation project in suburban Mumbai. More than 300 people who are entitled to receive housing in the project do not receive any “transit price” from 2019. Of these 300 people, 17 were accommodated in “transit accommodation”, which is why they did not receive a transit price, but these accommodations were also in a dilapidated condition. (agency)
