The Uttar Pradesh Madrassa Education Board on Thursday issued an order to make singing of the national anthem compulsory in all recognized, subsidized and non-supported schools.

After the government of the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, announced making the recitation of the national anthem mandatory in state schools, similar demands emerged in neighboring Madhya Pradesh as well.

In response to a request to comment on the UP administration’s move, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Dr Narutam Mishra said on Friday, “Jana Gana Mana is our national anthem, so it should be recited everywhere.”

He also went on to say that following in Uttar Pradesh’s footsteps was a possible option and that the Parliament government would certainly consider it.

Earlier today, BJP state chief V De Sharma endorsed the move by the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh.

We do not demand the national anthem of Pakistan. We just want the national anthem to be recited, as India is welcomed, Bharat Mata ki gai is chanted in the educational institutions of Parliament, Ub and other countries. So what’s wrong with that? Sharma said.

He added that if it is decided, this is a welcome move.
