NDA presidential candidate Draupadi Marmo will today file her nomination papers in the presence of other senior leaders including the Prime Minister, Defense Minister and Home Minister.
New Delhi: National Democratic Alliance (NDA) presidential candidate Draupadi Marmo will file her nomination papers on Friday. Draupadi Marmo arrived in the national capital from his home state of Odisha yesterday and met Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nanda.
Former Jharkhand Governor Marmo will file his nomination papers in the presence of other senior leaders including the Prime Minister, Defense Minister and Home Minister. Prime Minister Modi is expected to be his first proposer. Proponents will include senior BJP leaders and leaders of some other parties. During the nomination, two senior ministers of the Odisha government will be present as representatives of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).
The Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United), Odisha Chief Minister and BJD president Naveen Patnaik, and the YSR Congress led by Jagan Mohan Reddy have also announced their support for Draupadi Marmo’s candidature. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, which runs a coalition government with the Congress in Jharkhand, may also support his candidature.
Draupadi Marmo has sought the cooperation of all for the upcoming elections. She will begin her campaign on June 25 in support of political parties to help her be elected president. The BJP has appointed a 14-member team led by Union Minister Gajinder Singh Shekhawat to coordinate the election process for the July 18 presidential election.
Prime Minister Modi said in a tweet, “Draupadi Marmo’s understanding of ground issues and India’s vision for development is excellent.” Opposition has fielded former finance minister Yashwant Sinha against Draupadi Marmo. Sinha will file his nomination papers on June 27.
