Kolkata: Jan Gawan shot dead one of his senior men and wounded another officer at the Indian Museum in Kolkata on Saturday, officials said.

They added that Al-Gwan used his AK 47 rifle to kill the Assistant Inspector’s Assistant, while the Assistant Commandant’s rank officer was slightly injured.

Chief Constable A. K. Mishra after Inspector General of International Civil Security Forces (Southeast) Sudhir Kumar arrived at the scene and pleaded with him to drop his gun.

The accused allegedly snatched the weapon from his colleague and emptied the entire magazine.

The accident occurred around 6:45 pm at the Museum Barracks, the “oldest and largest” facility of this kind in India.

The CISF took control of the museum’s armed security in December 2019.

The museum, located in the heart of Kolkata, is an independent organization under the administrative control of the Federal Ministry of Culture.
