Karnataka government issues flu advisory, asks people to avoid crowded places MIGMG News

The Karnataka Health Department on Saturday issued an advisory to the public regarding seasonal flu and asked them not to visit places with high population density and travel to states with high incidence of flu.

An advisory issued by Karnataka Health Commissioner Randeep D said, “Seasonal influenza is an infectious disease that spreads from person to person through the cough or sneeze of a person with the flu or through contact with droplets on surfaces. This self-limiting disease lasts five to seven days and causes very low morbidity and mortality.”

Fever, chills, malaise, loss of appetite, myoclonus, nausea, sneezing and a dry cough that lasts for several days and sudden onset of malaise are common symptoms of this disease. The illness can last up to three weeks in high-risk populations that include infants, the elderly, pregnant women, and those taking medications, especially steroids. The health department also warned the public not to go to work or school if they have flu symptoms.

The department also advised the public to cover their mouth and nose with a handkerchief or handkerchief while coughing or sneezing.

It also stated that hands should be washed with soap and water and unnecessary touching of the eyes, nose or mouth should be avoided.

Dos:

-Avoid visiting crowded places and if you do, use a face mask

-Maintain a basic minimum distance from people suffering from the flu

-Sleep well, be physically active and deal with stress effectively

-Drink plenty of water and eat nutritious food

– Shake hands or hug in greeting

-Spit in public

-Take medicines/antibiotics without consulting a doctor

-Visit places with high population density and travel to countries with high incidence of influenza
