Federal Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia on Thursday directed officials to continue to focus on surveillance and whole genome sequencing to screen for any potential mutations while emphasizing appropriate testing and effective surveillance to assess the timely spread of COVID-19. Mandaviya, who chaired a meeting with experts and key officials amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in some states, stressed the need to focus on counties reporting high positive cases, adequate testing (with a higher proportion of RT-PCR) and effective monitoring, the union health ministry said. This included a display and analysis of the trend of Covid cases, daily and active cases, positivity and deaths, test case along with nationwide weekly tests per million, RT-PCR share in weekly tests, genome sequencing and vaccination status.
