Kolkata: The High Court has confiscated the property of Manik Bhattacharya, former chairman of the Primary School Board, in the country and abroad. Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay passed this order after hearing the matter on Monday. Justice Gangopadhyay imposed a fine of five lakh rupees on Manik Bhattacharya. When it was not paid, Justice Gangopadhyay passed the above order.
Shahila Parveen applied to provide OMR sheet of 2017 Tet under RTI. Manik Bhattacharya, the then Chairman of the Foundation Board, rejected her application saying that she had not applied in the correct format. Against this he filed a writ before the High Court. After hearing the case, Justice Abhijit Gangopadhyay imposed a fine of five lakh rupees on Manik Bhattacharya, declaring the order illegal. February 27 was fixed for the payment of the fine. On this day, Justice Gangopadhyay ordered the confiscation of Manik Bhattacharya’s property if the fine is not paid. Giving this information, advocate Tirthankar De said that the action to confiscate the property will be taken at the registrar level. Earlier, in the petitioner’s case, Justice Gangopadhyay had imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on Manik Bhattacharya. The petitioner claimed that she could not participate in the recruitment process in 2016 and 2020 because she was not informed about the 2014 TET result. Only after this, Justice Gangopadhyay imposed a fine of two lakh rupees on him. If it was not paid within the stipulated time, it was increased to four million rupees. However, in this case, an appeal was filed on behalf of Manik Bhattacharya in the bench of Justice Subrata Talukdar. Haven’t heard back yet.
