The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday announced that it will renovate 169 dilapidated municipal halls after Mayor Shelly Oberoi directed officials to ensure easy access to better facilities at these centers for the public.
There are 296 community centres, 94 senior citizen recreation centres, 52 physical centres/gyms, 15 swimming pools, five sports complexes, one working women’s hostel along with Mahila Haat, under MCD.
After a review on Wednesday, Oberoi directed officials of the civic body’s community service department to take up maintenance work in 169 of the city’s 296 community centers on priority basis.
Oberoi said people should have easy access to community centers near their homes, which are important for organizing social events in local neighborhoods, among other functions.
