Murree roads have not been repaired for two years, preliminary report reveals
Preliminary investigation report on the Murree tragedy has come to light which states that 2 years of roads in and around Murree Has not been comprehensively repaired.
Murree is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Pakistan, which attracts a large number of tourists throughout the year, but especially in winter, large numbers of people flock here to enjoy the breathtaking snowfall.
It should have been that the safety of the lives and property of thousands of people who came here would have been ensured by increasing the facilities at this well-known and huge revenue earning place in terms of tourism. Everyone is shocked to learn that the highways around Murree have not been repaired for two years.
The initial report further said that on January 7, 4 feet of snow fell, trees fell at 16 places and roads were blocked. Due to lack of electricity, tourists preferred to leave the hotel and stay in vehicles but there is no parking plaza in Murree where vehicles can park.
The report also revealed that there was no government machinery on Murree’s main exit route due to slippage.
The report also said that vehicles were banned from entering Murree last night due to the intervention of DC, CPO, concerned Assistant Commissioner and SP were present to ensure traffic flow and on January 7, 21,000 vehicles were evacuated from Murree.
The heavy snowfall in the pits also disrupted the flow of traffic while the drivers of snow removal machinery could not reach the highway on time.
It may be recalled that Punjab Chief Minister Usman Bazdar has formed a committee for further investigation.
