New York fire leaves 19 victims, including 9 children
NEW YORK.— At least 19 people, including nine children, died in a Bronx apartment fire, one of the worst casualties in recent New York City history, reported firefighters on Sunday.
Mayor Eric Adams said the death toll from the fire was “Horrendous.”
“This is going to be one of the worst fires we have witnessed in modern times,” he declared.
The death toll was confirmed by Stefan Ringel, an advisor to Adams.

More than 5 dozen people were injured, and 13 of them remain in critical condition at the hospital, Ringer said.

Most of the victims faced smoke inhalation difficulties, Daniel Nigro, the city’s fire department commissioner, explained in a press conference hours earlier that afternoon.
According to the municipal Fire Department, approximately 200 elements attended Sunday’s fire at the Twin Park Apartments, a 19-story building on East 181st Street.

A few days ago, a house fire in Philadelphia killed 12 people, including eight children.
