President Arif Alvi left Islamabad for Lahore to inquire about the health of PTI chief Imran Khan and also discuss the appointment of the new army chief and chairman of the committee’s joint chiefs of staff, TV channel 24NewsHD reported.
The government on Thursday named Lt. Gen. Asim Munir as the Chief of Army Staff and Lt. Gen. Sahir Shamshad Mirza as the Chairman of the ADS.
The President left for Lahore in his special plane from Noor Khan Air Base. He is expected to return to Islamabad on Thursday evening.
In a tweet posted on Wednesday, former Prime Minister Imran Khan said that President Arif Alvi will consult him after receiving the summary of army appointments.
He said that he and the President will act according to the laws and the Constitution of Pakistan in this matter.
