Setting up a relief fund for the people affected by the earthquake in Turkey, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday appealed to Pakistanis to donate generously to the fund, TV channel 24NewsHD reported.
The decision was taken at the federal cabinet meeting held in Islamabad.
The meeting expressed deep sorrow and grief over the huge loss of life and property in the earthquake in both Turkey and neighboring Syria.
The members of the cabinet, on that occasion, announced that they will donate their one-month salary to the prime minister’s fund.
It has been decided to donate the one-day salary of civil servants, from the 18th to the 22nd grade, to the Fund.
Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan and Turkey are brotherly countries. “The country participated wholeheartedly in the rescue and relief activities in the flood-affected areas of Pakistan,” he recalled, adding that Pakistan would not leave their Turkish brothers and sisters alone. “Tomorrow I will fly to Turkey to see for myself the devastation caused by the earthquake,” he told the cabinet.
Prime Minister Shehbaz said that in addition to the aid, he also sent teams to the disaster-stricken country to assist Turkish authorities in the rescue operation. “Besides, teams of doctors and paramedics have been sent to the affected areas, and more help will be sent in the coming days,” informed the Prime Minister.
He told the cabinet about his phone conversation with President Tayyip Erdogan after the news of the natural disaster broke.
On this occasion, the Federal Cabinet prays to Almighty Allah to rest the departed souls in eternal peace and grant patience to the bereaved families.
The cabinet also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the incident.
