Authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan have reopened the road linking to Deosai, the high plateau between Skardu, Astore and Kharmang in northern Pakistan and one of the country’s top tourist destinations.

Road traffic reopened after eight months.

Sama TV reported that after the road was reopened, the land link between Skardu and Deosai was re-established.

It will allow about 33 villages to reconnect with the world.

The road to Deosai is closed almost every winter due to heavy snowfall in the area.

Driving on an often unpaved road is difficult and requires special skills, although it leads to a place known as the ‘Roof of the World’.
