The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has launched the Solar Roof Top Scheme to boost solar energy in India. You can install solar panels on the roof of your house and apply for a subsidy from any vendor that is included in Discom’s panel. The vendor will also be responsible for maintaining the rooftop solar for five years.

How much subsidy will you get?
If you install solar rooftop panels up to three kilowatts, the government will subsidize you up to 40 per cent. At the same time, if you install solar panels up to 10 kW, you will get 20% subsidy. The local power distribution company (DISCOM) is running the scheme in the states.

How much will it cost?
If you want to install a two kilowatt solar panel, it will cost around Rs 1.20 lakh. However, you will get 40 per cent subsidy from the government, then your expenses will come down to Rs. 72,000 and you will get a subsidy of Rs. 48,000 from the government. The lifespan of a solar panel is at least 25 years. In such a case, by investing so much at the same time, you can get rid of expensive electricity for a long period of time and you will get free electricity in a way.

How to apply for a grant?
If you want to avail the benefits of Solar Rooftop Scheme, you need to visit the website Solarrooftop.gov.in. After visiting this website, click on your state link. Next select the option to apply online. You will then need to fill in all the required details in the application and upload the documents. Finally click on Submit option.
