Defense Minister Khawaja Asif said that the process of appointing the new Chief of General Staff has started and that the new COAS will be appointed by November 25.
In an exclusive interview with TV channel 24NewsHD on Monday, the defense minister made it clear that there is no deadlock on the issue of the appointment of the new army chief.
He said the process of appointing the army chief had begun by denying any deadlock.
“We will receive the summary for the appointment of a new chief of the army tomorrow. “When we get the summary, a consultation will be held on the proposed names and the new Chief of General Staff will be announced by November 25,” Asif said.
The Defense Minister said that there will be 5 or 6 names in the summary along with the files attached to them.
“We are not under pressure regarding the appointment of the new army chief,” he said, adding that allies were consulted at every stage.
The Defense Minister said that one name will be finalized from 5 or 6 suggested names in the summary.
He said the government would take the decision after giving confidence to the Pakistan Army leadership on the proposed names. “So far no progress has been made on this issue,” he added.
In his tweet today, K Asif wrote, “The process of appointment to the top posts of Pakistan Army has started today. God grant that soon the appointments will be completed according to the constitutional requirements.”
