The United States and India will continue to chart an ambitious course in the bilateral defense partnership, committed to shared values ​​and a shared vision for an open Indo-Pacific region, the Pentagon said Thursday.

The Pentagon stated this ahead of the April 11 2+2 Dialogue, the fourth ministerial dialogue in which US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Foreign Minister Anthony Blinken, Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will host.

“Committed to shared values ​​and a shared vision of a free and open Indo-Pacific region, the United States and India will continue to chart an ambitious course in the bilateral defense partnership,” the Pentagon said.

Since its inception in 2018, the Pentagon said, the 2+2 Dialogue has allowed the United States and India to work toward building an advanced and comprehensive defense partnership that prepares to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

She added that this year’s 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue will span the full scope of the partnership – including cooperation in the areas of defence, science and technology, climate, public health and people-to-people relations.

According to the US Department of State, this year’s event will celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations and reaffirm the importance of the comprehensive and global strategic partnership between the United States and India in ensuring international peace and security.

“It will reaffirm our common commitment to a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific,” she said.

The 2+2 Ministerial Dialogue is an important opportunity to advance shared goals across the scope of the US-India Strategic Partnership, including strengthening people-to-people relationships and educational cooperation, and building diverse and resilient supply chains for critical and emerging technologies.

It will also aim to promote climate action, public health cooperation, and develop a business and investment partnership to increase prosperity for working families in both countries, she added.

“It is also an opportunity to highlight the growing key defense partnership between the United States and India. The relationship between the world’s largest democracies is built on a foundation of shared values, resilient democratic institutions, and the shared interests of the Indo-Pacific region—an international order that protects sovereignty and territorial integrity, and upholds human rights. and expand regional and global peace and prosperity.”
