After a Delhi court released bail to AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan on Friday in a case of alleged rioting and obstruction of public officials from performing their duty, the party led by Arvind Kejriwal said that truth and justice prevailed over the BJP’s “intolerance”.
The court granted bail to Khan after he appeared before the court at the end of the one-day judicial detention period.
Metropolitan Magistrate Himanshu Tanwar has given relief to the association’s legislator, saying he is no longer required for interrogation while in custody.
Delhi Police on Thursday arrested Khan for allegedly rioting and obstructing public servants from performing their duty, hours after he participated in a protest against an anti-encroachment campaign carried out by a municipal company ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party in southeast Delhi.
The party led by Arvind Kejriwal said in a statement: “Truth and justice prevailed over the bigotry of the BJP today as a Delhi court granted bail to MLA Amanatullah Khan.”
The party claimed that the Delhi police had “maliciously” arrested Khan at the request of the BJP on Thursday.
The court granted bail to AAP MLA on personal bail of Rs 50,000 and two guarantees of similar amount after hearing the submission of the lawyer of the accused and Delhi Police.
The judge said that the accused was an elected public representative and as legal aid counsel, it was expected that he would make efforts to maintain law and order. The judge also said that his chances of escaping are very slim if he is released on bail.
