Federal Minister for Poverty Alleviation and Social Security and Chairman of the Benazir Income Support Program (BISP), Mr. Shazia Marri, together with the Federal Minister for Development Planning and Special Initiatives, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal inaugurated Benazir Dynamic Registry Center at BISP District Office Narowal. The event was attended by government officials, community leaders and beneficiaries of the BISP program.
During the inauguration, Mrs. Shazia Marie introduced the Benazir Dynamic Registry to the audience, which assesses socio-economic conditions on a fluid basis and updates the data periodically. The registry is operational in 600 centers across Pakistan and has benefited over 9 million people, Ms. Shazia Marie added. The federal minister also pointed out that after the recent 25% increase in the BISP fund, the scholarship has increased from 7000 to 8500. She emphasized that floods and global inflation have changed the economic conditions of people in Pakistan and that the National Socio-Economic Registry Survey ( NSER) is mandatory for inclusion in the list of BISP users. She urged women to register in the NSER survey and thanked Mr. Ahsan Iqbal for his support.
Answering a question from the audience, Mr. Mari said that BISP plans to implement a program based on the aborted initiative: Waseela-e-Haq. The Benazir Income Support Program is trying to expand its reach. She further stated that the Benazir Income Support Program has been recognized as one of the most transparent initiatives by renowned international organizations such as the United Nations.
In his remarks, Mr. Ahsan Iqbal welcomed Mme. Shazia Marie to the country filled with cultural ethos. He praised the work mrs. Shazia Marie has broadened the horizon of the Benazir Income Support Program. He added that BISP is a program that goes beyond politics. He was briefed by DG NSER, Mr. Naveed Akbar that the Benazir Income Support Program has data on about 34 million households in Pakistan. He also informed the honorable minister about the National Socio-Economic Register. G. Iqbal said that the Prime Minister has a keen interest in the Benazir Income Support Programme. During his talk with the media, he cited the reasons for the current inflation, including the IMF agreement signed by the previous government, the Ukrainian war and the devaluation of money by the previous government.
The Benazir Income Support Program is an essential support for people in this hour of need. It provides crucial support to the most vulnerable and marginalized segments of society, especially women.
