Before 1955, the Republic Day parade was held at various places in Delhi. It was first organized on Republic Day at Erwin Stadium in Delhi. After that, the President of the Republic took the parade salute sometimes at Ramlila Maidan, sometimes at Red Fort and sometimes at Kingsway Camp.
In 1955, the parade was organized for the first time on January 26 on Rajpath. The parade has since become permanent here. Along with this, the salute platform where the country’s army salutes its commander-in-chief has also become permanent.
