According to the sources, all the lock-ups have been occupied following the fresh arrests in the excise policy case. However, if ED sources are to be believed, there may be new developments from Friday to accommodate the new accused. Although K Kavita dropped the EDK call a day ago, speculations are still rife. The Enforcement Directorate has been quite active in the last few years as raids, arrests and interrogations have increased manifold.
Changing the seat of EDK:
The headquarters of the ED was shifted from Khan Market to Janpath, where four jail cells were constructed in the new building. The accused are held and interrogated during the day in these prisons. Sources say all these cells are full but are likely to be emptied by next week. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, accused in the liquor policy scam, Hyderabad businessman Arun Ramchandra Pillai, senior TMC leader Anubrat Mandal and his chartered accountant Manish Kothari are currently jailed among them.
Purpose and Working Mechanism of ED Lockups:
All the accused are kept in separate prisons so that there is no interaction between them. Earlier, when the ED headquarters was in Khan Market, the accused were detained overnight at the Tughlaq Road police station, after which they were medically examined the next morning.
After all these details, the question remains whether Kavita from ‘Dakhtar Telangana’ will be arrested soon?
